Work-life balance concerns? Volunteering with the NCBA’s Young Lawyers Division can actually help you maintain a healthy balance between work and the outside world. Most everyone who has made it into the legal profession can attest to the rewards of helping others in need. YLD volunteers have for years gained the personal satisfaction of knowing they make a difference and improve the lives of those around them.
Participation in the YLD also provides a unique opportunity to meet and develop relationships with lawyers (both young and old) throughout the state. These relationships often result in lasting friendships, unofficial mentoring and sharing of legal information, new employment opportunities, and referral of work, all of which can be invaluable for a young lawyer.
Short on time? The YLD continues to focus on developing projects that allow more attorneys to provide meaningful services to those in need, without it adversely affecting their work or time with family and friends. You can volunteer for as much or little time as your schedule permits. If you have a couple of hours or more, you can make a difference – one service hour at a time. To get involved, review the YLD committee descriptions and submit a completed sign-up form.
