In 1988 the North Carolina Bar Association and the Young Lawyers Division made the decision to establish a Scholarship Program for children of North Carolina Law Enforcement Officers disabled or killed in the line of duty to help with college expenses. The first scholarship was awarded in 1989 to the child of a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer who sadly was killed in the line of duty. Over the next 18 years, 84 students have been able to continue their education through the generous funding of the Endowment Committee and the Hubert B Humphrey Justice Fund in 2002.
